Some spiritual direction relationships last a few months and others many years. However long the relationship, there will come a time when it does feel right to draw things to a close.
These endings and changes are normal and expected and are appropriate for a variety of reasons. You might be entering a new season of life with different needs. You may wish to try seeking out a new spiritual director with different skills or style. There maybe financial of practical concerns that influence your decision. There may even be times when a spiritual director might need to adjust their working life and so instigate the change.
The reviewing questions and reflection points which are available here might help to you as you discern this. Feel free to share as much of this with your director as feels right for you.
If you do decide its time to draw this season of spiritual direction to close you can simply mention it in a spiritual direction conversation or send an email.
It might be helpful to have one final session or just a final half hour conversation to bring this season to a good close. In this final meeting we can look back over the journey together and where you find yourself you are now, and treasuring what has unfolded. If you would like one of these final sessions or half-hour meeting please feel free to ask.
